a test of tobacco virus

I thought it would make a 'statement' at work. So, I planted some tomatoes around where the smokers hang out. I put some from the same flats (All Merced hybrids) around the front non-smoking entrance. The soil condition was equally bad and the sun pattern was roughly the same.
A huge difference in 'white veining' of the leaves and fading of the fruit set. The cigarette smokers probably engulfed the plants just to spite me, but they were surprised anyhow. The plants were plagued with more grasshopper attacks and generally were very unthrifty, shriveling off at branch breaks, etc.
Besides, no one really wanted to taste the smoked-on tomatoes!
