Reinforcing Bar.  It is steel used to reinforce concrete in construction.
Medium size wires in a mesh to be buried in concrete is called Remesh.
(I hear it makes great tomato cages.)
And the large bars, starting at about 1/4 inch and going to a few inches
across are called rebar.  The outside of rebar has ridges to give the
concrete something to hang on to.  At hardware stores in the US they
often have precut pieces of rebar over by the landscape timbers
or fence supplies.  Ron Souliere
