Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
>Book: Jeff Ball's 60-minute vegatable garden.
>I found it in a used bookstore...I just ran across this book.
Bill apparently had also bumped into it in some compacity recently.
* What on earth does one do in a used book store? LOL
..."in some capacity..." In the olden days, we called it
"going to the library." 794 garden books in town of 57k.
I got 10-12. Intensive mental gardening.
>Jeff does not bring much new to the subject of Sqft to those
who have read the Mel book, (of course Mel did not invent
most of that stuff either, he just combined it (and simplifed)
it into one book quite nicely I think)
*Organized it. Most books overlap some. That's why I got
10-12 of them. Mel discusses companion planting etc,
Separate books for each are harder to tie together w/o a
general manual like Mel's or Jeff's.
>The one thing he had (as mentioned
in this group) that caught my (and I believe Bill's) eye
was his way of putting up a hoop greenhouse that was
also adaptable for other purposes. I believe it is
worth looking at, at least for those of us who want
to extend our growing season.
>Jeff mentions putting your vertical structures on the
west or east ends of the beds. This contradicts Mel
and I am still trying to collect data on which way is best.
Ron Souliere
*This is case sensitive. But not much. Depends on what
is in beds, goes to shadows... bed locations relative
to each other, even quanity. You might use South end.
Depends what is also on trellise. But just E or W,
say E by a hair. I'm a fussbudget here. 10% is a lot
and this isn't even 5, is my estimation.
*You who ache for gardens, take head. Can't go to
spring? bring spring soil temps and air temps to you.
These hoops also serve as bird netting appliances...
rabbit...kitty...
