>>3) When manure is used, you normally hear things like horse or cow,
perhaps even rabbit. We have access to rabbit pooplets, so that's not a
problem. However, I have two dogs who have the ability to produce a
prodigious quantity of, well, dog poop. Is this okay to use on a garden?

>For your first year, you might want to get some
prepackaged, ready to use manures to help build the soil up a little.

I also have nop Aggy ofice in CA. Ag is a business here that is bigger than
Govt. I use a $15 test kit. I am very tedious in how I test tho, and altho
thewse kits are nor great, they keep me in the ball park. N,P,K,ph for 10
tests of each. This lasts me a couple years easily.

Rabbit I am made to understand, can be used w/o normal month MINIMUM
composting. But I wouild add 5-10% precomposted manure/compost to good soil,
and 25-33-50% to other types. I have read this and find it to be true. And
that is w/o being intensive. They invariably say ~ "a little is of almost no
value, in amending soil quality/texture. Add copius amounts..."

The soil UNDER these beds will be better later. Now, or then raised beds or
not, dig 12" or better, "french 'double dig'."
