>I just purchased Office 97 Professional for about $80.00. The
Professional version also has Access, a database program that
my son says is great. (I haven't tried it yet, but maybe it might
work for tracking square-foot data?) In fact, with hyperlinks,
perhaps Excel and Access data could be linked. But hey, what
do I know? I just installed it the other day. Much to learn.
1) Access is great. Maybe your son can offfer a primer
on an-ot-garden. I took 2 classes of 6 hrs each.
2) Excel will do so much more than your calendar or
journal, you will likely never plumb its depths.
I only hope to.
3) Yes, it will link, a member has shown me it can be
mailed. She has an extensive seed list in it with
notes of purchase and expiration. I use it as a
phone book too...searchable. Editable w/o eraser.
Highlightable, blah, blah...
4) RSA, a recently hacked security company, uses
Filemaker for its website. Their IT boss tells me
it is great and links more easily than Access.
5) Office Pro, or Office Standard, comes w/Word etc.
For the DIF between $55 and $80, I would ABSOLUTELY
exchange it, to get a new version of Word and Access,
yes for me, maybe for you.

(Also available, Office 2000 Professional for about $130.00.)

*On THIS note, I will say I had hoped for greater input
for the member who wants to put a 10" deep bed over
grass and gravel and clay. He/she is a good contributor
and has a bad back. Of 300 members we got only a clue
of root depth. I read in books 6-10" for lettuce.
No input here folks? What is this was your mom or dad?
