>Bill,
>I have seen the studies that show that clear plastic leads to greater soil
warming than black plastic. One of the downsides of clear is that it allows
light in which can support weed growth
*Ortho did the one I read. Was only a couple degrees difference (in favor of
black.) But thanks. If you recall them, I would like to check them out.
They could be in error. The study was very good, but not excrutiatingly
precise. It was in their Tomatoes Book.
>Frank Teuton----who notes that greenhouses aren't covered in clear for
nothing, and that shade cloth is typically black, yes it is.....but that
nice black compost under a clear plastic will get warm better than some
light sandy soil, yes it will....
*Assume neither light not dark compost, but in between;
where would we stand, and by how much...?
Bill
