To the person who asked about adding a variety of things to the compost:
Don't put in anything that contained cigarette butts or other tobacco
products. From what I've read, they can contain tobacco mosaic virus, which
isn't killed by the processing of tobacco. The disease can do a lot of harm
to tomoatoes and other related plants (peppers, eggplant). The virus spreads
so easily that smokers are advised to wash their hands thoroughly before
working in the garden!
