Two reasons. First, I think they've made a nest someplace high up in the
tree and I'm concerned that they may be harming it. The ant trail goes up
higher than I'm willing to climb so I'm not positive the nest is there.
Something IS harming the tree. I'm only blaming the ants 'cause they are
visable.
Second, to get to the tree, they have to cross my patio (normally in several
long lines). While I don't mind them in the compost or around the edges of
the yard, walking across me, my family, and our BBQ's is a bit much.
The tree (a ficus I think) has lost a few branches and when the treetrimmer
did his thing to it last fall he said it was not in "good condition",
whatever that means. I was at work and never got the chance to get an
explanation.
If the ants are innocent, I'd sure like to know. Alternate steps could be
taken to keep them off the patio (changing routes for them?).
