>Hi,
I have experimented with okra spacing and find that 1-2 per sq maintained
good air circulation and permitted good branching. I used Annie Oakley 11
hybrid. I also did as many as 3 per sq but the overall yield decreased.
Pinetree Garden catalog states 4-6 seeds per sq.
I remember using their spacing with not as big a yield as 1 or 2 per sq. I
tried Clemson spineless one season and that plant grows large. I planted
Clemson one every two sq.
I find that okra interplants well with a lot of other veggies. Last season
I interplanted one bed with okra and sweet potatoes. Another bed with okra
and tomatoes. And still a third with okra and sweet peppers.
I am not sure what zone you are in so pay attention to the days to maturity.
Annie Oakley 11 does well in the northeast. I start okra indoors around end
of April or beginning of May. I transplant out sometime in June and harvest
plenty of okra for fresh eating, freezing, and still can give some away.
