Howdy--I'm new to the list and following the thread about tomato support
structures with interest.
I love the suggestions of some listers concerning the use of relatively
inexpensive metal piping, esp. the guy who suggested copper. But isn't
anybody worried about the intense heat. In my Zone 7 backyard, you could
fry an egg on any metal item left outside at midsummer on a sunny day. One
does not like to contemplate how the tomato vines feel snuggled up to what
must resemble a red-hot radiator to them....
The white plastic PVC pipe suggested by Chrissie might be a little less
volcanic, no? But then it wouldn't look nearly as good as patinated copper.
