I don't know about that, parsnips are notoriously hippy :-). Seriously, however, my understanding is that the wider spacing between rows is to allow workers and equipment to get down the rows. In Sq Ft gardening, you don't need the extra space because of the way the garden is laid out. Hopefully others can answer your other spacing questions. Kat In sunny So. Cal. (Z10/S18)
