I don't know how other people get their eggs, but ours come in a fairly soft pulpy cardboard box with a semi-flat lid. I cut the bases up into individual "cups", cut out the bottom of each cup, place them into the lid, fill with seeding mixture (finished, sieved compost in my case), and voila! I don't know how well it would work for slow-germinating seedlings, because the cartons tend to break down within a few weeks.
