No, I don't believe you need two tomatillos to produce fruit. I've only grown them one plant at a time (with *plenty* of fruit!)and they've done fine. Perhaps they pollinate with tomatoes? (I doubt this, but you never know! I use the same spacing as determinate tomatoes. Marjorie Woodinville, WA
