Hi Drea,
    In Mel's article in Organic Gardening
Feb. '96 he suggests 1 vining melon per 2 feet of trellis and 1 bush per
1 foot. I've planted 1 vine per foot and I agree with the web site spacing
of 0.5 sqft. ON the other hand I'd say 1 per square foot for cucumbers
because mine are really sqaushed up. Mel says any cucumber up to
8lbs is fine. I'm growing mini-lee which only grows to about 5lb I think
and it seems fine.
