RE: Basil and baby watermelons

Drea,
Planting melons after peas is a great idea. I have 48 feet of trellis.
12 of those feet are devoted to tomatoes all season, another 12 for pole
beans. The remaining 24 feet are peas. After the pease finish, they
are replaced with muskmelons, cucumbers, winter squash and New Zealand
spinach. The peas are finished in plenty of time for the rest to get in
a great season. Planting more than one crop per square in the growing
season really makes most use of the space in the garden. I garden in
zone 7b, so my season is a little longer than yours, but I hope you'll
try it just the same!
