Re: Zones - what are they?

The zones are a bit strange. I am in USDA 9b which is the warmer portion of
zone 9. Zone 9 or 9a is slightly cooler in the winter. To add to the zone
headache there is the zone system that Sunset magazine puts out. There are
24 zones whith this system. I am in zone 21. I have found that the 24 zone
system is more accurate than the USDA zone system because more than
themperature is taking into account. The only problem with the Sunset system
in that they only conver the western states. The book 'Western Garden' is an
excelent resource for anybody in the western states who wants to know more
about their area. The maps are so detailed that you can find you zone very
easily.
