I have some questions about garden size which some of you may be able to
answer. I have been reading Mels book again and in the chapter where he
describes garden size he says that one block (4x4) is enough to feed one
person with fresh vegetables for salads for the year. He also writes that a
typical family of four can have fresh vegetables for every meal plus canning
with 6 to 8 blocks. That said, has anybody put this to the test? I question
this because Ecology Action puts out the book How to grow more vegetables
than you ever thought possible... and they say that 400sqft is needed to
feed a family of four using intensive gardening methods. I have a family of
three, soon to be a family of four and I am trying to grow as much of our
food as I can. This is especially important because my daughter is highly
allergic to many foods in the store. I expanded my garden this year from
32sqft to 70sqft in hopes of a bigger bounty. So what have you in cyberland
experienced? Are 6 to 8 blocks enough?
