On one side of my garden, I have a 6 foot fence that I use to support the
peas and beans. On the other side, I have a 4 foot fence that I used last
year to support peas and tomatoes. The tomatoes were brandywines, and grew
faster than weeds (I ended up chopping off the tops when they were over 6
ft.), so they blocked out the light and I didn't get as many peas as I did
near the beans. What you describe below sounds like it would work, if the
peas are on the outside of the tomatoes... I think you'd have to work very
carefully to get the tomatoes in there- could be tricky!
