Hi Martha,
I've never grown the malabar spinach, but I've grown the beans and can
vouch for their vigor. I'm pretty sure the beans would cover the space
you're talking about if you planted enough of them. I've grown the Scarlet
Runner Beans and they're nice, but another often overlooked gorgeous bean
is the Louisiana Purple Pod, which at this point is my favorite. It has
nice purple flowers and beautiful purple beans which turn green when
cooked. They're vigorous and grow like crazy. You can see a photo of some
of the LPP beans that I grew a couple years ago if you go to my home page
(http://home.ptd.net/~blaithin/blaithin.htm) and click on "The Garden",
then scroll down to the second photo. This page is heavily under
construction, by the way.
