Hi All,
I was hoping to get a little advice on some plants I've started indoors
that aren't doing well. I've been following the guidelines in Jeavons'
"How do Grow More Vegetables..." on what can be started in flats as opposed
to direct seeding, and I realize that this book tends towards starting
nearly everything in flats, so these might be tough customers, but.... I'm
having trouble with my beets and five color silverbeet. They sprouted
quickly, but have remained in the seed leaf stage for over a week without
too much change at all. The set-up I'm using is a regular florescent shop
light which I'm moving up and down on chains to match growth size. The
plants are potted in a commercial mix. The same set-up gave me enormous
healthy cabbage, broccoli, tomato and pea transplants a few weeks ago, and
right now I've got pepper plants doing pretty good, but these beet and
silverbeet sprouts just aren't doing anything much. Am I being too
impatient? Any advice appreciated.
Regards,
Laurie Mandigo-Stoba
