If I am not mistaken you should put some kind of wire rack over the cable
and then put the flat on the rack. I use a water bed heater myself and it
works great. I make sure to check them everyday about twice really to make
sure that the flat is not getting too hot. I have germinated lots of plants
so far with no trouble. And I have set the flat right on the heating pad and
inserted the thermostat in the flat under the cell packs to maintain the
right temp.
Maybe someone who has used the heat cable will jump in here and tell you for
sure how to use it.
