Re: Seed Starting

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I've just rejoined the list after a few months off for a cross country
move, and the discussion of seed starting using heat gave me a little wake
up call. We've just come from San Francisco, where I'd gotten in the habit
of starting all my own plants for our community plot. I never used heat
and always had great results. Now we're in Wappingers Falls, NY (mid
Hudson Valley) and have a yard, mostly shady, where I'll be trying to
squeeze in a few garden beds. Would it be wise to consider starting my
seeds with heat here? I'll be using the basement which isn't exactly
heated, but it does have the washer and dryer and a lot of pipes and
whatnot which aren't particularly well insulated. During laundry it's
downright balmy, in the dark of night it's warmer there than say, the
bedroom where ice is forming on the inside of the windows. Thanks for any
suggestions.

Regards, Laurie, Wappingers Falls, NY
