At the beginning of the Victory Garden a couple of weeks ago Roger Swain
made the point that bamboo is such a terrific plant because it can be used
for so many things, like staking plants to. I had never thought about that.
It intrigued us and we plan to plant a little plot near our pond to see if
we can grow it.
...but be warned! This 'terrific' plant can wreak havoc in the garden, as
well! Our neighbors have bamboo growing on the other side of the fence, and we
neede to spend a couple of weekends digging trenches and laying down a heavy-
duty barrior, as the stuff sends out masses af gnarly roots and shoots that
ended up in our gardens, thus literally lifting plants out of oiur soil and
kiling them! Contain this stuff well or you may be very dissapointed in a few
tears tiime!
