 ground. >>

I think I'm going to grow my cantelopes up a trellis in the square ft garden.
I've also thought about making a 1 ft wide raised garden next to the fence to
use for cantelopes (just so they don't take up space in my regular garden).
As far as the watermelons, I'm going to grow the Sugar Baby which I believe
has more compact vines than the other varieties of watermelon. I know I
probably can't grow this up a trellis because of the weight of the fruits.
So, I'll have to do a raised garden just for watermelons then use it for other
vegetables during the fall. I'll cover it with black plastic mulch and use
straw for the watermelons to grow on top of. This is supposed to conserve
moisture since watermelons take so much.

Now, big question. My son bought a variety of pumpkin that is supposed to
grow to over 100 lbs. He had to have it!!! He also have to have a variety
of seed for tomatos that are 2 lbs a piece!!! Now the tomato I can handle
in the sq ft garden. But what about this huge pumpkin??? The seeds were
packaged in a "Ripley's Believe It or Not" seed packet. Any suggestions for
this giant pumpkin?? LOL
