Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Well, we shall see how this experiment works out. I'm still in my first year
of SFG.
Out here in San Diego, my tomatoes are still flowering and my too-late
planted corn (I must add, the master gardener said I could still plant it) is
still attempting to get taller. Green and hot peppers are still peppering,
too, and it's time for winter vegs to go in.
My mom, a green thumb person, has been out here for the holidays. We decided
to cold frame the tomatoes and corn, plant another couple of squares of
winter stuff and frame them so we could shade cloth and extend the growing
season. I had a bunch of PvC sprinkler line around as well as some rebar.
The PVC isn't that stable, but seems to work well with some rebar inserted in
it. They're rather awkwardly covered with 6 mil clear plastic duct taped
into shape over hardware cloth over the PVC frame. This "clear plastic"
actually looks rather whitish, but you can see through it. I guess this
isn't exactly the classic cold frame -- more like a temporary greenhouse,
perhaps.
Any thoughts, experiences, or shrieks of horror?
BTW, mom's become a sqf devotee. She got the book for Christmas and is
planning on a couple of squares when she returns home. She has a REAL
greenhouse, but won't let tomatoes share the space with her orchids. Always
gets whiteflies.
