Regarding companion planting, ever think of the "three sisters" of planting?
This is the Indian way, which is to plant squash and runner beans next to
the corn. Theoretically, the runner beans run up the corn (the corn
providing support), and the squash is supposed to be a deterrent to raccoons
(they don't like walking on the squash leaves). Doing it this way does
require a bit of planning .. the corn has to be planted and up prior to
planting the beans & squash. I know corn doesn't like to be transplanted,
but it is do-able if you baby them. That may be the way to go.
Peace,
Patti
