I'm in southeastern CT and also a zone 6b.

*I really wish I could help you but you really need to
understand this. It's like knowing your size before
buying the color of jeans you choose.

In the West, I could take your locale, look in Sunset
Western ($27 now) and tell you the critical facets
of your climate, afffecting planting. Ask the Ag
agent, where you might discover that detail. Look
it up and save it. So you understand, also check
the zone 1 up, and down, and in your case, the A/B
of it. THEN check somewhere you've lived, and what
it says. You'll get the feel of the descriptive
differenciation(s) used...i.e. "windy" versus
"windy" in the afternoon / Autumn" etc.

Poor Richard's Almanac / Farmer's Almanac
also says something. Don't forget to read
between the lines... what your Mom/the
neighbor planted "there" or didn't.
Immerse yourself, and it will be assimilated.
Maybe slowly, maybe in a flash. Just so it's
before Spring. If you have a short season,
you'll be helped a lot if you can determine
how short, and just when to say for sure, it
has actually begun... i.e. last frost for the
last ten years...
Bill
