But me, I want it my way. And tomorrow, I want to
change my mind. And my spreadsheet. So with Excel,
I save it, and copy (now a new feature is called "version,")

Bill I use excel too to plan out my seed lists -- the wants and haves. I
also keep track of the stuff I harvest and weigh it and assign a purchase
price to it and subtract that from my food allowance, then I spend the money
on the garden for seeds or bed building materials. For example I harvested
18.25 pounds of carrots last week. Carrots were selling at the local market
for 39 cents per pound so I "purchased" the carrots for $7.11. When/if I
process them (freeze, can or dehydrate) then I adjust the "price" upwards in
line with local price for that form. I keep track of all my seeds by type,
variety, and year along with the seed starting, transplant and projected
harvest dates as per SQ FT Gardening by Mel. On another sheet I keep track
of the seeds I want to get and other garden supplies. I moved here to this 5
acres (much of it very soggy right now) mid October and didn't charge the
food budget for all the corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, squash, leeks,
onions and many pounds of beans that I fell heir to. I should have. So...
now I am taking $15 per month out of the food budget for this whole year to
help make up for it. Won't cover it completely but will give me supply money
every month. I used to buy canned beef stew but now I make it and I think I
should charge the food budget the prevailing purchase price of beef stew for
the stew I make, but maybe that is getting too gready there. LOL.
Lisa who is off to build more garden beds.
