Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Silvia - where in VA are you? I also live in Va (only got my asperagus in
last summer so no help here) but I do have several sources of hourse crap for
you if you are in the northern part - its pretty easy to comeby, drive to the
closest farm and ask them for some :) Most are willing to give it away if you
are willing to load and haul it - buying an old pick up truck was the best
thing we did for our garden.

Hello! My name is Silvia and I just joined this list a couple days ago. I
started SFGing 3 years ago, maybe longer (time flies with little ones).
This is our third move, however, and we plan to be in this house a good long
time, so I'm getting much more serious about my gardening. I live in
Virginia, and _lovely_ red clay for soil. I'm going to start an asparagus
bed, and am planning to add sand to the clay when we till it. We just moved
here in Dec. so we haven't gotten to till anything yet. Does anyone have
any experience with asparagus? I've ordered 25 crowns, but I only want to
devote one 4 by 4 square to asparagus. Should I plant 1 per square, or
crowd them all in? I hate to not use all that I've bought. Any tips would
be welcome! I'm sure I'll have some other questions soon, since I'm going
to start seedlings myself this year. I hope I can contribute to answering
some others' questions, too! :)
