Sounds like what we want to try this summer. But we have the tractor/front
end loader so we don't need to rent or hire someone with one. The basic plan
is to scrape off all the soil in the area we want to make the garden (old
garden is there) making a large pile of the good soil. and making the area a
bit lower then the surrounding area in the process. Since this is in an old
pasture and grass is my main weed I am also thinking about putting a weed
cloth down at this point, maybe over the whole area maybe only under the
paths.
Then we will make the beds, place them in the proper spots, begin to fill
them with the compost we have on hand, some "topsoil" and then the good soil
we removed to make the beds in the first place. I am hoping that by making
the whole area lower we will have more soil to back fill with - sort of along
the idea of digging a path down and using that soil to make your beds higher.
Good Luck!
Chrissie
