David- Trenching. I simply
take a square ended spade and dig a trench underneath my trellised-end of my
square.. up to one foot wide. I suggest you dig as far down as you can (18 - 24
inches not too deep). Starting at the bottom of the trench I put
in:
6 inches of straight matured
manure or compost,
then I fill in the rest of my
trench with a mix of 1 part manure to 1 part soil.
I can tell you that although my tomatoes plants died
from extreme frostbite both in late spring and again in early fall last year,
while they were growing/recovering during the summer they really seemed to take
off. Mel also says that we should assume the plants have used up the previous
year's trenching efforts and repeat the trenching each year.
Tomato Choice. I like your
choice of 'maters, especially the sungold. I will be trying to mature a
brandywine once again here (my growing season may be too short for the 90 day
season required by brandywine). I have no idea what to expect for peas and
beans.
New Thread. I think it is as
simple as tabing over to the Subject: window on your email address window, and
enter any new thread title you care to use. Sorry I have no experience
with "odd numbers, etc. I just hit the "reply" button to send this email
out.
Hope this helps,
bill missen.
