Hi All, Just wanted to thank everyone for all their tips on building a compost bin. I got many replies, and didn't have time to reply to each one. I think the cinder blocks were a good idea, and so was the hardware cloth, but I guess we decided to go with a bin that lies somewhere between the two as far as permanency goes. We will try to find wood pallets, and see if they will work for us for this year, at least. They seem to be movable, yet sturdy, cheap, yet long lasting enough. Our problem here in Southern California is that these wooden pallets are kind of at a premium. Stores and industries tend to lock them up, or sell them to recyclers. My roomate works for a paper warehouse so she is going to try there first. You folks in the Northwest are pretty lucky to be able to go and take truckloads of them.. =:-o I have a large piece of plywood I will use as backing to the block wall, in case there is anything leaching from it. I'm also thinking that using the rebar with 2 X 2's structure would be too large a diameter to fit through 2 X 2's. The only rods I could find that were small enough were galvanized and really were expensive. Thanks again to all of you who replied.
