I just started vegetable gardening last summer and had a great time with squash, tomatoes, cukes, etc. I have to admit that I've let things lie fallow over the winter (I can rationalize this by saying that I had to redo the beds--I've just installed raised beds because I'm hoping that will improve the drainage in my heavy clay soil...) but I'm ready now to start planting. Due to our mild winters and limited freezes I'm sure that I can start things now, but I'm not really sure what...even Mel's book is rather confusing. Can someone else in the same area give me some suggestions? I was thinking of putting in broccoli, parsley and onions out as transplants and trying to start lettuce, carrots, radishes, peas, spinach and potatoes from seed outside (or rather let the seeds germinate inside and then plant them outside) . My family won't eat cabbage and I don't like beets, so I'm going to skip those. Does that sound like a plan? Anything else I should consider?
