I had a double wide trailer moved off a rental site I had on the property
here, and retained both the cinder block and cement pads from all those
tie-downs. All the talk about using the holes in cinder blocks has given me
an idea on how to get some use out of some 'foundling' glass plating John
drug home awhile back. Think I'll use a grubbing hoe to trench around a
site I've been wanting to dig up and set the cement pads on end around it,
and use some 'better' potting soil / sand mix to start some seedlings inside
the frame with the glass as a topper. Do you think the cement pads will hold
any warmth this time of year? If it looks like they will work, I can glue
some carpet backing to the leading edges so the glass doesn't bang against
cement every time I have to move it aside.
I went in on a peppermint and spearmint co-op recently. I was wondering how
to grow them and keep them contained, do you think the holes in cinder
blocks are big enough to hold a mint plant? Yeah, sure, my orange mint
doesn't have much of a deep root system. Hmmm, maybe even some of that
little mound-type basil and creeping thyme?
