Re: cinderblock inspiration


Yes, cement holds the sun's heat during the night and warms plants this time
of year.  I credit my large, ripening strawberries to just that.  I've grown
mints, including orange in the holes, and they all do fine.  Of course, they
like to creep out into the surrounding soil of beds.  All herbs seem to love
the holes, including a large lavender plant that has bloomed non-stop this
winter in one.  Dill was the only herb that didn't done well, because of its
long tap root, I'd guess.  But, parsley has a long tap root, too, and it did
great.
