Re: raised beds

I use 8 X 8 X 16 concrete cinder blocks.  The stretchers are the least
expensive but are usually only available from block yards where you can also
often get chipped seconds which are still useable for beds.  Home Depots and
the like here have only end or window blocks.  With blocks, it is easy to
remove the ends and run a large rototiller through every few years to
deep-till or mix in compost.  The only disadvantage to blocks that occurs to
me is they add 13 inches to the outside dimensions of the bed (including the
block border) which makes reaching  to the center more difficult.  -Olin
