Re: What To Plant

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I plant an early crop of peas and then a fall crop.
>Dick

Dick, I'm new at this myself, so my only suggestion is to fill in with sweet
alyssum as it grows so quickly and the flowers are supposed to draw
beneficial insects to the area. I usually throw some seed down wherever I
have a bare spot. It's one thing I don't seem able to kill!

I have some pea questions for you, though. I tried them last year with only
limited success. I planted Little Marvel, I used the inoculant on the
seeds, they didn't rot and all came up nicely. No squirrels ate them. (All
problems I've read about.) I had them growing up a twine trellis. They
looked healthy, but I never got many peas. Do you have a heavier-bearing
variety you can recommend? How many would you plant for a couple of pea
lovers in a household? Is there some trick to getting them to produce more?
And how long do you let the early crop stay in the ground before you know
they are finished? (I had planned to put in my tomato plants afterwards, but
the peas didn't seem to be finished in time.)

Thanks for any tips!
Erica
