The interior width dimension of my beds is 40 inches. Using 2 by planks
(actually 1-1/2 inches thick) would make it 21-1/2 inches from the outside
edge to the middle. With blocks it comes out to 28 inches. But you can
compensate by kneeling on the block border - not easy with arthritis. The
usual 48 inch "standard" interior width would make it 32 inches to the
middle using blocks - a bit too much for me. -Olin
