We used soaker hoses for a couple of years and wouldn't recommend
them. With sediment in the water the hoses would be plugged. We found
that after winter storage the hoses wouldn't work, probably because they
were plugged. We also had trouble with them bursting. I should mention
that we not only used the soakers in the garden but also on the cedar
shrubs around our property line - about 1000 feet. It cost us a fortune
and they didn't last.

This year we are trying a 1/2 inch plastic pipe with drip lines & small
sprinkler heads. We've got the sprinkler heads attached to cedar stakes
in the blocks. We've spaced the stakes at 2 feet and 4 feet and
have 360 deg. heads. Raindrip makes a really nice filter with a very
fine mesh inside that catches the sediment. Seems to be working well so far.

The cost of the new system is much less that the soakers were and hopefully
they'll make it through the winter okay.
