Re: What's eating my tomatoes?

With regard to finding half-eaten -- often ripe and ready to be picked
by you the next day -- tomatoes in your garden and wondering about the
alleged perpetrators: I can personally testify that among vertebrate
mammals squirrels definitely DO eat tomatoes. More than once I've seen
them on the lawn with one of my tomatoes in their grubby little paws
gnawing away. All that was missing was a bib to catch the juices and a
salt shaker!

I don't think this is standard behaviour for them however. Most likely,
very dry weather drove them to it looking for moisture. Stopping them
completely is probably impossible, though bird netting draped over my
entire garden and held down with stones did allow me to have a few ripe
ones last summer.

Best of luck,
