Summer Squash Problem/Help!

Dear List Members: Something is wrong with my zucchini and summer squash plants! I returned last night to find that my first zucchini and starburst squash had rotted on the vine! The zucchini was about 5" by 1" and the starburst was only about 1". They were both brown and mushy. When I cut them open I didn't see any bugs. The plants are very healthy....no signs of problems with the leaves. I've searched all my books and can't find the answer. What's wrong?
