I don't know if my tomatoes last year were already becoming ripe
when I picked them, but they looked green through and through, and
all I did was leave them in a basket in a cool place in my kitchen
and eventually all turned ripe red. I had to be careful of rot and
mold though - I picked out any damaged fruit every couple days.

I don't see why you couldn't use any old tree or scrap wood if it
fits - if it's yours, it's cheap and worth a try.
Let us know if it works.
