I'm so sorry to hear about people having trouble with tomatillos! I wish I could share a little of the weath with you all, because I've got volunteer tomatillos literally growing in the mulched and heavily trodden paths of my garden. And those little guys even have fruit on them right now! But I do believe that whether your tomatillos are self polinating or not depends on the variety. I THINK but am not positive, that purple are self-polinators, and green are not. Or just the reverse:) So this might explain why someone could have luck with just one, while yours isn't fruiting. I definately agree with the suggestion to plunk in another plant close to the one you've got. And prune away on the established plant, it shouldn't hurt it in the least. Good luck!
