basil rootings

Hello all!  A few weeks ago I asked about rooting cuttings of basil.
Well, I stuck three cuttings in some water and vermiculite and waited and
now all three have developed pretty good roots.  My next question is:  I
want to put them in containers for friends and have some five gallon
plastic containers are these big enough?  Will basil grow in a container?
 What needs to be put in the container to encourage healthy, happy basil
(besides soil)?  Any advice would be appreciated!
