Splinting should work just fine. Earlier this year we had some severe hail
storm damage. Not as bad at my house as in other places (some baseball
size hail!!). But my tomato plants took it pretty hard. Some broke off
the whole top. Others broke almost in two. The one without the top, I
just let a sucker grow and let it become the main stem. The others I
supported with a trellis with strings, like Mel describes in his book, and
wrapped the plants around the string as they grew. Most are 5 feet or
taller now and producing well!!
