When I moved into this house I asked the same question. I had been told
that the lady who owned it used a lawn service regularly and I was sure
that there was all sorts of poison in the lawn.
I was told several things, and have learned some since then, but it all
boils down to good news. First of all I was told that composting would
remove most commercial poisons from my grass clippings. I didn't believe
this so I waited a full year before using any in compost for my food
garden. I did use them on my flower garden though.
Someone told me that to get an "Organic" status I should have waited 3
years...but by the time I actually used the compost it had been almost two
years.
I still haven't figured out why one should have to wait 3 years if
composting actually works to degrade poisons. I must assume that it doesn't
work completely.
However, on a side note, I felt quite happy using the cuttings from my
horticulture as compost. I figure that running through the assimilation
process twice, and then the decomposition process twice should be enough.

Hey! I finally got my WEB Page back up!

And parts of it actually work!
