Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I'm buying alfalfa hay at $3.75 a bale that has some other stemmy hay in
it. The goats and llamas love it, but it does shatter pretty badly. When it
does, I've been putting it in the compost, and around as mulch. One batch
from a different source was BRIGHT green and the animals wouldn't touch it.
I took my hint from them and put it in a 'toxic' pile. I think they
overloaded it with heavy nitrogen fertilizer and probably pre-emergent
sprays.
You can often buy alfalfa pellets for rabbit food. This works good in
compost, but watch the heating up closely. I've found feed concentrates
like this tend to really get the pile cooking.
