Ah ha! A question I can finally answer (sort of, anyway). The plant
polymer you describe is called Terra Sorb. It's sold by Plant Health
Care (they have a website). I bought 50 pounds (about $250) and tilled
it into my new lawn (recommended rate is about 10 lbs per 1000 sq ft).
I've also used it to plant in my new trees and in my sq ft garden. If
you buy direct from PHC, the stuff is MUCH cheaper than at the resellers.
I live in wickedly hot and dry West Texas --- so far so good. I'd
recommend the stuff if you don't get any good answers about disposable
diapers.
