Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi Teresa and all,
I grew sugar baby melons this year on a round tressil made of four in square
wire mesh. It is very sturdy wire and about 2 1/2 ft. in diameter. It
occupies a 3x 3 ft space in a long bed. I really added a lot to the soil and
reworked the beds this year and it seems to be paying off. I planted four
seeds indoors in late march and set them out in late May(trimming off one
plant--leaving three). Yesterday I put pink pantyhose slings on six melons
from baseball size to softball size and then noticed under a couple of leaves
a dark green round object the size of a large cant(Yippie). There are also
about 4 or five olive size ones comming higher up on the trellis.
Nothing really seemed to be happening until I pinched off the tips of each
vine and then wow, they really took off.
I love raised beds, square footing, Mel soil and mulch---I've never had a
good melon crop before.
