Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
When I posted earlier about my sugar babies, I didn't realize most folk were
discussing the cants. so I'll tell you that my french melons are just as
slow as everyone has been reporting their melons to be. But I do have to say
that I pinched back the growing points of each vine(leaving a tiny bulbous
thing--I think a dried or blooming female flower)and that seemed to really
give them a boost. Since then(as I said earlier)the sugar babies have really
grown and set additional fruit)the french melon has set several fruit.
I have also started to curtail the expansion of my vertical squash and even
some of the tomato branches. There is only one good dependable month left
here and about mid August I begin to remove blossoms and excuse the
expression, mangle or crush some of the tomato leaves and branches to cause
them to ripen faster. Otherwise I will end up with very little ripe fruit
and lots of green.
Sorry if I strayed a little much from melons.
